Recycled insulation for the energy efficiency and circular economy of buildings
Buildings are the main contributors to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Europe, generating about 36% of the EU’s total CO2 emissions throughout their entire life cycle. They account for 40% of the total energy consumption in Europe and around 461 million tons of construction and demolition waste, excluding excavation materials, are yearly generated. SICLA solution targets two of the main issues in the building sector, which are energy efficiency and recycling of construction material. SICLA meets the challenge of energy efficiency by guaranteeing at least 40% reduction in energy consumption and 34% reduction in overall construction weight. Compared with available alternatives, only 33% of the insulation thickness is required with SICLA solutions for the same thermal performance. By using more than 75 wt.% of recycled siliceous material from the demolition industry, SICLA is a smart solution to build efficiently insulated houses and at a lower environmental cost.
