Identification

In the EU, buildings under construction are responsible for 40% of energy consumption, 36% of CO2 emissions and generate 1/3 of all waste. Moreover, most of the construction materials used are of petrochemical origin and have a linear life cycle. According to the “Sick building syndrome”, 40% of all materials used in the construction sector are hazardous. From an agricultural point of view, rice is the most consumed food globally with 66% of the world population basing their diet on rice. Every hectare of rice field produces 7 tons of edible product and 10 tons of residues, which must be dismantled. These by-products are burned on a global level, emitting a significant quantity of CO2. Rice Husk's solution tackles the challenging occurring in both the construction and agricultural sector. The company transforms rice residues into 100% natural construction materials that at the end of their service life return to nature. In particular, the company supplies 100% natural insulation material based on rice husk. By using an approach based on bio-architecture, the company enables the construction of energy-efficient, natural buildings, using low-cost rice residues.
