REDA Thermal pumps are intended for use by operators of geothermal power plants. The technology gives access to more geothermal resources than would not be possible with a surface-driven pump configuration used in most high-temperature projects to date. Placing the electric pump motor at the bottom of a geothermal well reduces mechanical complexity and creates an opportunity to develop projects with deviated wells, allowing access to more energy resources. Traditional electric submersible pumps are not suited to the high flow rates and temperatures required by geothermal electricity generators.

The Environmental Benefits

  • REDA Thermal can operate in wells up to 225C°
  • REDA Thermal maximum flow rate is 908 cubic meters of geothermal water per hour
  • Some REDA Thermal installations have helped to supply 1.4 MW of carbon free geothermal electricity per installation
  • REDA Thermal pumps can be refurbished or recycled at a Schlumberger Artificial Lift Renovation Center

The Financial Benefits

  • New geothermal generating capacity can be at least as cost effective as other alternatives, including fossil fuels, nuclear and solar-thermal with battery storage
  • REDA Thermal electric submersible pumps can be serviced in a fraction of the time required for traditional surface driven pumps at existing geothermal projects
