Adgero designs and makes innovative Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems for commercial vehicles that can reduce fuel consumption and emissions by over 25%. An electric machine (motor/generator) is fitted to the drivetrain. During braking, this machine acts as a generator, slowing the vehicle and sending electricity to be stored in graphene ultracapacitors. During acceleration, this machine acts as a motor, drawing electricity from the ultracapacitors and providing power to accelerate the vehicle, significantly reducing fuel consumption. This system is managed by an ECU that reads braking and acceleration messages from the host vehicle's CANbus and translates them into boost or energy recovery commands to the motor generator. The system can be installed without any permanent modifications on virtually any truck or semi-trailer over 12 tonnes and can be removed and reinstalled on another vehicle quickly and easily.
The Environmental Benefits
- •Allows operators to make their existing vehicles more fuel efficient without needing to invest in expensive charging infrastructure
- •Uses no permanent magnets or rare earths in its motor, greatly reducing the environmental impact of the Solution
- •Uses no lithium, cobalt or nickel in its energy storage, only graphene, meaning no mining impact
- •The relationship between fuel consumption and CO2 emissions is quite linear, so a 25% reduction in fuel burn will result in a similar drop in CO2 emissions. NOx and PM emissions should also be reduced, improving air quality
- •The motor is made entirely of aluminum, so it can be recycled in an arc furnace without requiring stripping out any copper

- •A rigid operator can expect 25% lower fuel consumption on an urban drive cycle. Assuming driving 45k miles annually and paying £1.10/l of diesel, payback is under three years
- •Because it is platform agnostic, fleet managers can run any make of vehicle or type of fuel they like with no costly migrations
- •Operators will never be held hostage to the whims of government promises on charging and filling infrastructure
