Description

The new Premier Inn Hotel is part of a chain with more than 750 hotels across the UK and will help demonstrate Zypho's potential to slash energy costs and carbon footprints for hotels and other buildings across the UK. Every one of the 85 bedrooms in the new Premier Inn Hotel in Douglas, Isle of Man, constructed by Dandara Commercial, is being equipped with Zypho. Our wastewater recovery device is being integrated into each bathroom pod. Zypho was chosen to reduce the cost of energy for heating the shower water in each bedroom and as a solution to achieve a SAP energy assessment at a competitive cost.

Impact & Result

An 85-dedroom hotel uses, on average, 20,000 kWh (*) per month for heating shower water. With Zypho installed in every room it will be possible to save 1/3 of the energy typically required for each shower. (*) Calculations use an average of 0.04kWh to heat 1 liter of shower water with a flow of 10 liters/min. It estimates two 10min showers per day in each room.

Solution Spotlight

The Zypho Shower Wastewater Heat Recovery system efficiently captures heat from shower wastewater, with temperatures around 40ºC, and transfers it to the incoming cold mains supply, typically at 10ºC. This process preheats the water to approximately 33ºC, which can then be supplied to either the shower mixer, the water heater, or ideally both, resulting in a substantial decrease in energy consumption.
