Pyflor farm
Valle de Ángeles
In 2017, Pyflor Farm in Valle de Ángeles, Honduras implemented the Sunlight Pump to modernize its hydroponic irrigation, switching from combustion pumps to a sustainable solar-powered alternative. The 0.5 HP pump improved water circulation for fertilizer distribution, boosting lettuce crop yield. This shift reduced carbon footprint and operational costs, addressing high fuel expenses and environmental impact. Encouraged by initial success, the farm acquired three more solar pumps, reinforcing their green initiative. This move exemplifies how renewable energy can enhance productivity and sustainability in agriculture, promoting broader adoption of clean technology in the region.
With a 375-watt solar panel installed, the average flow rate of the second solar pump is close to 15,000 liters per day, although it can reach 25,000 liters per day on a very sunny day. And as this pump operates 365 days a year without using fuel, lubricant or filter, the annual saving for the farmer is 1,948 US Dollars, and for the environment that’s around 3,800 kg of CO2 not emitted.
The sunlight pump is a small-scale, solar-powered water pump. Being a modular and versatile system, it can be used for a wide range of applications: productive use (e.g. irrigation, livestock, fish farming), drinking water supply and hygiene. It is an affordable, reliable and environmentally sustainable technology that brings water to where it is needed and contributes to the economic well-being and health of farmers and communities. The sunlight pump is a highly efficient water-lifting technology that does not require electricity or diesel to function. There are no operation costs, meaning that there is a higher return on investment over the lifespan of the sunlight pump. It is the right choice for anyone who wants to turn a free source of energy into time and money savings. The sunlight pump turns sunrays into savings.
