This simple yet effective solution can be used at any point along the fresh produce supply chain including post-harvest handling, storage, processing, packaging, distribution, retail, and the end-consumer stage. Our initial primary target customer segments are distributors and retailers of fresh high-value/short shelf-life fruits such as strawberries, grapes, mangoes, figs, etc. including Walmart, in Costa Rica. Through these independent pilot studies conducted by Walmart, Costa Rica, some of our highlights include extending the shelf-life of their strawberries by 2 days (66% shelf-life extension), their grapes by 8 days (100% shelf-life extension) and their oranges by 15 days.
Ryp Labs is a food and crop protection company developing and commercializing biomimicry solutions to combat global food waste, sustainably and safely. Their food-safe sticker, StixFresh, can extend the shelf life of fresh produce by up to two weeks, by simply peeling and applying the sticker to the produce. The sachets and sheets formats, Shelf Defense, can be placed in clamshells and other container formats to protect smaller fruits such as berries and grapes from premature rotting. These solutions can be used at any point along the produce supply chain including post-harvest handling, storage, processing, packaging, distribution, retail and the end-consumer stage. All materials involved, including stickers, can be recyclable, compostable and biodegradable. The products have a high potential of experiencing mass-market adoption in both developed and developing markets.
