The municipality of Uppsala in Sweden wanted to nudge newly installed citizens in a more efficient way to make them choose more climate friendly means of transportation (eg. switch from car driving to biking or using public transport). They used the web app for communicating with their newly arrived citizens and to propose incentives to climate-friendly habits – e.g. sending a free trial period for public transport within a week from when they moved to the city.
Car usage was reduced by 10%, while users showed a significant shift in mindset, with 76% expressing a more positive attitude towards choosing the bike over the car, highlighting a successful move towards eco-friendly transportation habits.
Smart Travel Habits sends a message to the user via SMS or email, containing a unique link to the platform, automatically personalized for the user, and the recipient is nudged in several ways towards more climate friendly travel habits. Finally, the entire process is measured and analyzed so that anyone can easily evaluate their sustainability investment.
