story image

Description

Requalification of Avenue du Grey in Lausanne: Avenue du Grey is currently characterized by a wide asphalt strip with up to four traffic lanes. In an effort to improve urban livability and sustainability, the city of Lausanne decided to reclassify the avenue. The goal was to reduce its width, calm traffic, and introduce new features such as cycling infrastructure and tree planting, among other enhancements. As part of this project, we were entrusted with providing expert advice and support during the creation of planting pits. Additionally, we supplied 400 m³ of our fertile planting substrate, Exosol, to help renature the avenue and contribute to a greener, more sustainable environment.

Impact & Result

The production of ExoSol results in 250 kg COeq. However, a future study on the carbon sequestration potential of ExoSol is expected to demonstrate that it will likely offset around 30,000 kg COeq in the long term.

Solution Spotlight

ExoSol recycles excavation materials (mainly landfilled) to create the numerous urban green spaces that will need to be created in the years to come to counter the effects of global warming. Agricultural soil thus remains in an agricultural environment and urban soil in cities, which also reduces the flow of transport and greenhouse gases.
