A consortium led by the Waste Resources Action Programme (ASDA British supermarket chain, Robert McBride, private label manufacturer, Oakdene Hollins, specialist consultants, Unilever, main brand producers and Eziserv, technology provider) launched a commercial trial of in store dispensing and refilling of retail packaging in ASDA stores in five UK cities. This trial introduced delivery of liquids from the point of manufacture to the point of sale and automatically dispensed the liquid into reusable/refillable packaging, generating live sales data and providing information directly to the supply chain.
A significant achievement of a 96% reduction in plastic associated with product delivery to consumers was reached, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices in the supply chain.
RefillPoint can eliminate single-use plastic and is proven to be a consumer-preferred method of delivering products at home. 96% of current plastic waste can be avoided by refilling/re-using attractive and functional packaging that is convenient, clean and quick to use. It makes customers feel that they are taking positive and sustainable steps to improve the planet just by shopping with almost no change in behaviour and no difference in cost or complexity. Refill Point is an interactive dispenser that refills reusable containers with sector-leading, branded liquid products sold in retail stores.
