Description

A consortium led by the Waste Resources Action Programme (ASDA British supermarket chain, Robert McBride, private label manufacturer, Oakdene Hollins, specialist consultants, Unilever, main brand producers and Eziserv, technology provider) launched a commercial trial of in store dispensing and refilling of retail packaging in ASDA stores in five UK cities. This trial introduced delivery of liquids from the point of manufacture to the point of sale and automatically dispensed the liquid into reusable/refillable packaging, generating live sales data and providing information directly to the supply chain.

Impact & Result

A significant achievement of a 96% reduction in plastic associated with product delivery to consumers was reached, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices in the supply chain.
