Mataró
Mataró requested the Management of Environmental Services of the Provincial Council of Barcelona to carry out the air quality studies of their municipalities, included in the catalog of services. Lobelia was contracted for this project, offering a two-step solution: build a versatile air quality model, driven by a dispersion model open source atmospheric and emissions proxies from open data sources, and a practical spatial interpolation scheme, capable of assimilating observations from different sensors with different levels of accuracy.
The Lobelia viewer uses a contaminant dispersion model along with data satellite and in situ data to predict street-level nitrogen dioxide levels. This projects a typical week of pollution levels, allowing to anticipate the pollution levels at different times of the week. This information helps to identify the most affected areas of the city and contributes to determine the most appropriate areas to include in ZBEs.
Lobelia Air is an innovative air quality monitoring system, providing high-accuracy information at a street-level resolution, using a combination of local data sources and satellite observations. Lobelia Air offers 24/7 near-real-time street-level monitoring of NO2 and PM10 concentrations, with hourly data ingestion and model calibration, and up to 48-hours forecast. The algorithm is based on an open-source, scientifically validated dispersion model that processes meteorological data along with local information (e.g., traffic, air quality) from an official network of existing in-situ sensors or calculated using machine-learning algorithms.
