WWF Hong Kong
Mai Po
Located on the northwestern corner of Hong Kong, the Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay wetlands are recognised as a Wetland of International Importance under the prestigious Ramsar Convention. For more than three decades, Mai Po Nature Reserve has been a paradise for birds and a beautiful, irreplaceable piece of China’s wetland kaleidoscope. WWF Hong Kong partnered with RoboticsCats to do a joint AI Bird Detection R&D. The AI Bird Detection is built on top of the LookOut Wildfire Detection SaaS platform. Our LookOut wildfire detection service is monitoring forests in different parts of the world to early detect forest fire ignitions and empower firefighters to take timely actions to mitigate wildfire risks and damages. We sometimes see birds in the areas we are monitoring. Wildfires cause anxiety. Birds bring peace.
From an environmental perspective, automating and enhancing wildlife population counting and measurement supports conservation efforts. From an economic standpoint, it allows conservation groups to minimize manual labor and reduce manpower requirements.
With increasing temperature, wildfire risks are increasing around the world. Property owners, especially those with homes at WUI (wildland-urban-interface), need early wildfire alerts to protect their families and assets. LookOut wildfire detection service was developed to provide customers easy to deploy and use solutions to detect wildfires in their areas: - Hardware: existing video surveillance cameras to provide visual images of the environment. It requires a simple camera set up to send images to our cloud server - Software: no server software to install. It is a SaaS to detect wildfire using Machine Learning object detection on the images provided by customer’s cameras. - User interface: ReportFires mobile app to provide real-time alerts and images of the wildfire detected.
