Description

The Seoul’s Gangnam City Government wanted to better understand air pollution in the city and design effective policies to combat pollution exposure. Kaiterra collaborated with the authorities to develop a network of outdoor air quality monitors throughout the district. The partnership began in 2018 with a one-year pilot program during which 44 outdoor air quality monitors were installed throughout a several hundred square kilometer area in Gangnam, located in the center of Seoul. "We established a fine dust monitoring system for each area in Gangnam. As a result, water cleaning and vacuum suction cleaning will be performed to remove it" Director of Environment Management at Gangnam District Office

Impact & Result

  • The installation of 44 outdoor air quality monitors across several hundred square kilometers in Gangnam allowed for comprehensive monitoring of fine dust (PM 2.5) levels throughout the district.
  • By tracking fine dust levels, the city can take proactive measures to reduce pollution exposure, which helps mitigate health risks such as respiratory issues, cardiovascular diseases, and other conditions linked to poor air quality.
  • The installation of the air quality monitoring system allows for more precise and targeted pollution control measures, such as water cleaning and vacuum suction, which can be more efficient and cost-effective than broad, untargeted interventions.

Solution Spotlight

Hardware and data analytics to help businesses today address indoor environmental concerns in an energy-efficient way. Kaiterra’s commercial air quality monitoring solution and data analytics provide a way for people to see the air they are breathing and improve their indoor environment via data-driven, energy-efficient strategies. Using real-time data collected by highly accurate air quality sensors, including PM2.5, TVOC, CO2, temperature, and humidity, and Kaiterra’s air quality dashboard and analytics algorithms, building owners and facility managers can integrate real-time air quality and environment data into existing building control and automation systems, to gain a full understanding of the indoor environment, identify risk areas, and further improve comfort, wellness, and the efficiency of HVAC and purification systems.
