Sarthe Cancer Center
Le Mans
The new Sarthe Cancer Center in Mans was recommended to use the low-carbon concrete ECOPact for the construction of radiotherapy chambers and dedicated scanner rooms. The scanner rooms were the subject of a particular implementation due to the use of X-rays. The construction site volume was of 13,000 m3, using 1,500m3 of low carbon solutions and 1,000m3 of concrete with recycled aggregates. The site should be completed by the end of 2022.
The use of Ecopact concrete in the construction project resulted in a significant 27% reduction in the carbon footprint, showcasing its effectiveness in promoting sustainability and lowering environmental impact.
ECOPact range is the industry’s broadest offering of green concrete for sustainable and low carbon construction. The product is sold at a range of low-carbon levels from 30%-100% lower embedded carbon compared to standard (CEM I) concrete. The global brand ECOPact aims to make carbon-reduced construction available in all core markets where Holcim is present. The entry-level product is ECOPact, with 30-50% lower embodied carbon content compared to a mix design with CEM I. ECOPactPRIME has a CO2 reduction level between 50-70%. The product is technically more demanding providing a significantly higher reduction than the general standard available in a given market. ECOPactMAX exploits the technical possibilities to the maximum. This product pushes Holcim technical expertise to offer a top of the line product with a CO2 reduction greater than 70%. ECOPactZERO is a unique or carbon-neutral concrete, achieved through offsetting.
