Maturity stage TRL 9 / CRI 2 - Commercial Trial Small Scale

Handimap is a pedestrian and PRM route planner, already installed in 87 towns and cities in France, designed to meet the specific needs of inclusive urban mobility. It generates accessible routes for pedestrians, PRMs, senior citizens and other users, incorporating theoretical accessibility data (gradients, pavement widths) and real-time data (roadworks, obstacles). Its accuracy and multimodal coverage (walking, bus, tram, metro) make it a unique solution given the limitations of conventional calculators. Handimap has already been integrated into the STAR network in Rennes and via the HITinéraire application in Lorient, where it optimises public infrastructure, promotes local commercial activity and encourages soft, sustainable mobility. By making towns and cities more accessible and inclusive, Handimap is positioning itself as an essential tool for urban mobility that respects the environment and is adapted to the needs of all users.

The Environmental Benefits

  • Handimap is the only route planner that takes into account the needs of all pedestrians, particularly in terms of accessibility. It is specifically designed for individuals using wheelchairs, whether manual or electric, as well as for blind individuals
  • Our routes use data standards defined by PRM associations and local authorities as part of French (CNIG) and European (NeTEx Accessibility) legislation.
  • By helping to develop pedestrian mobility, Handimap promotes a healthy mode of transportation that combats sedentary lifestyles.
  • By helping to develop pedestrian mobility, Handimap promotes walking as an autonomous mode of transportation or as a complement to public transport. In doing so, Handimap contributes to reducing the modal share of cars

The Financial Benefits

  • When possible, finding accessible routes is much cheaper than having to rely on on-demand transport services.
  • The cost of a journey using on-demand transport is approximately 10 to 40 euros for the local authority. On the other hand, calculating accessible routes costs 1 cent for every 20 route searches.
