Agriculture faces challenges like water scarcity, soil degradation, and excessive fertilizer use, affecting both farmers and the environment. To tackle these, we developed Fasal Amrit, the first certified organic, 100% biodegradable super absorbent polymer made from fruit and vegetable waste. Fasal Amrit absorbs up to 50 times its weight in water, retaining moisture for 5-15 days, reducing irrigation by 40%, and minimizing drought effects. It prevents fertilizer leaching, cutting usage by 20% while enhancing soil health. Fully biodegradable in six months, Fasal Amrit is an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic products. Ongoing trials in sugarcane, maize, vegetables and high-value crops like horticulture crops further validate its impact. By improving water efficiency, reducing costs, and increasing yields, EFP fosters sustainable and climate-resilient farming.

The Environmental Benefits

  • Around the world, there are more than 2 billion people derive their livelihoods from agriculture. This is around 26% of the total population who can be our potential customers.
  • Just 1 kg of Fasal Amrit can help a farmer reduce water usage by up to 40% while keeping the soil moist for 5-15 days, even in dry conditions.
  • Fasal Amrit completely breaks down in the soil within six months, leaving no pollution while improving soil health and increasing crop yields by 10-20%.
  • Fertilizer Savings: Replacing 90 kg/ha of synthetic fertilizers with 20 kg/ha of Fasal Amrit avoids high-carbon urea production (1.2–3.0 kg CO₂e/kg). This substitution lowers emissions while maintaining crop yields.
  • Transport Efficiency: Locally sourced fruit waste reduces transport emissions by 50%. Unlike synthetic fertilizers that require long-distance shipping, EF Polymer’s decentralized production cuts carbon footprints and aligns with circular economy goals.
  • Carbon Sequestration: Fasal Amrit boosts soil organic carbon by 27.49%, turning farmland into a carbon sink. This removes CO₂ from the air and enhances long-term soil health resulting in carbon sequestration by 13%.
  • Waste Upcycling: EF Polymer upcycles 3.6M kg of fruit waste yearly (2025 target). Diverting waste from landfills prevents methane emissions (25x more potent than CO₂) and adds economic value.

The Financial Benefits

  • Lower upfront cost: Fasal Amrit costs ₹400–500 per acre, whereas synthetic fertilizers (urea, DAP) require ₹1,500–2,000 per acre per season, making it a more affordable initial investment.
  • Higher yield with less input: Fasal Amrit increases crop yields by 20% due to improved water retention and nutrient availability, ensuring better returns even with reduced fertilizer application.
  • Quick payback period: Farmers recover their investment in 3–6 months as Fasal Amrit reduces fertilizer expenses while increasing yields, offering higher profits compared to conventional methods.
  • Long-term water and cost savings: Fasal Amrit reduces water usage by 30–40%, lowering irrigation costs and diesel consumption for water pumps, making it a cost-effective and sustainable alternative over multiple seasons.
