A process to produce renewable H2 from carbon-based materials
Two of the world’s greatest challenges are Climate Change and Waste. The World Bank has declared that 2.01 billion tonnes of municipal waste are produced each year and the number is growing. Climate Change is largely attributed to mankind producing excess amounts of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) including Methane (CH4) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2). One large source of GHG is from decaying organic waste in landfills. The Landfill methane emissions in 2010 were 799 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. EEI has developed a revolutionary technology that can help reduce GHG emissions and at the same time produce clean renewable hydrogen (H2). The EEI process converts organic wastes into H2, which means that they do not go into the landfill and thus do not produce the GHG referenced above. A typical waste facility processes 300 tonnes/day of municipal waste. Approximately 50% of this waste is organic. This is enough to produce 8.8 million kg of hydrogen/year from just one municipal site.
