Blueeze - A solution using liquid nitrogen for a clean, quiet and performant refrigerated transport

Air Liquide’s expertise in cryogenics has led to the development of a clean and silent innovative solution for cold storage truck transport known as blueeze™.

Most of the generators currently on the market produce cold using a standalone diesel generator. These motors have evolved so little that not only are they noisy but they also account for more than 90% of the total particle emissions generated by a refrigerated truck as a whole, power train included. Blueeze cryogenic cooling unit provides an optimum cold chain & regulation quality with much faster temperature pull-down or recovering after door opening compared to standard mechanical technology. The air that circulates inside the refrigerated container is cooled through the circulation of liquid nitrogen cooled to -196°C in one or more hermetically sealed exchangers before the nitrogen is released as a gas into the atmosphere.

Key features

  • The carbon footprint is reduced by around 85% (ADEME calculation)
  • Based on nitrogen cryogenics, this solution offers a more reliable way to ensure that the cold chain is not broken

Profitability

  • In the near future, the solution will be economically equivalent to conventional diesel generators
