An innovative foldable container, optimizing the empty container transport, to make logistics more sustainable

Identification
The solution aims to alleviate the problem caused by the empty shipping containers, due to global trade imbalances. While import-dominated ports accumulate large amounts of empty containers, export-dominated ports need them as transport equipment, requiring a repositioning transport of them. In addition, shipping containers spend half their useful life empty in depots, causing a major problem in port areas that need large areas to store them. The current strategies are not working and the final impact of repositioning empty containers is 20 billion dollars per year in cost and additional emissions of 200 million tons of CO2 per year. Zbox is a disruptive foldable container that optimizes the empty containers repositioning. It's a patented foldable container design with the same features as the standard container. However, when it’s empty, we can fold it and bundle it in 5 containers in the same space as one, reducing the space in transport, storage and handling operations.
