Sign upA bio-based translucent wood material for sustainable construction applications
Woodoo has developed a process that turns wood into a low-carbon footprint, high-performance material, opening new opportunities for its use in construction, automobiles and aeronautics.
By removing lignin from the material's cellular scaffold and replacing it with a bio-based polymer, Woodoo has overcome the properties in wood that make it unsuitable for demanding applications in the construction industry – low durability, limited mechanical resistance, recurring maintenance costs – to create a molecularly enhanced translucent wood material that is weatherproof and fire-resistant, three times more resistant than native wood, low maintenance, and market competitive.

Transparent wood that is ‘lighter and stronger than glass’ could create energy-saving windows
Scientists have developed a method for producing a form of transparent wood. The material is both lighter and stronger than glass and provides better insulation than glass. Researchers from the University of Maryland said the process alters a structural component of wood called lignin that prevents light from passing through the material.

Woodoo: augmented wood to build a healthier and carbon-neutral city
Timothée Boitouzet is the founder of French company Woodoo. He has developed a new material that will reduce our environmental impact. Woodoo uses a bio-based resin to make the wood more solid, rot-proof and surprising the chemist, it becomes translucent. The wood can also respond to gestures, picking up a movement to trigger a command.

Woodoo: wood that resists water and fire
Woodoo aims to re-enchant the urban environment by preserving nature. It was invented by Timothée Boitouzet, a young 32-year-old French architect. After the prototyping phase, this fall we are going to open our 900 square meter production unit in Troyes.

French start-up Woodoo bets on augmented wood
Woodoo was founded by Timothée Boitouzet, a young architect trained in Japan. The start-up extracts lignin, a kind of glue that attracts insects while making the wood rigid and putrescible. Woodoo then replaced it with an ultra-resistant polymer, in order to obtain a rot-proof, malleable, translucent and fire-resistant augmented wood.
