Identification

The Solution aims at revolutionizing the production of green hydrogen and significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions worldwide while contributing to resolving the significant global issue of non-recyclable waste. The patented process, which converts all types of waste into green hydrogen through plasma gasification, is energy self-sufficient, fully enclosed, and environmentally friendly by not producing any dangerous by-products. The Solution wants to set new standards to improve the quality of life and sustainability of communities by increasing access to affordable clean energy, eliminating the release of chemicals into the air, water and soil with its process which is currently re-defining waste recycling.

Implementation Stories

The Patented Plagazi Process by Plagazi AB (publ)
Implemented by Municipality of Köping in Köping (Sweden) in 2024

The municipality of Köping identified the Solution to replace the local incineration plant Norsaverket and provide district heating, green hydrogen and electricity to the city. The project will include building a large-scale 51 MW industrial hydrogen production facility in the form of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). Production of green hydrogen is expected to reach up to 12k Mt/year with only 20% of the electricity demand for electrolysis with a hydrogen cost below EUR 3.0/kg for an all-in production cost.

Result

According to dnv (an international accredited registrar and classification society), the project will eliminate up to 175,000 ton co emissions per year

The Patented Plagazi Process by Plagazi AB (publ)
Implemented by Gotlandsbolaget in Båstad (Sweden) in 2022

The capital raise (€4,7M), which has been led by Vator Securities, will have a significant role in Plagazi's future expansion and demonstrates the confidence in Plagazi from major industrial anchor investors such as Gotlandsbolaget.

The environmental benefits

  • 22’000 metric ton of non-waste can produce up to 5’000 metric ton of fuel cell grade hydrogen and up to 50’000 metric ton of captured industrial grade liquid carbon dioxide
  • External electricity requirement of less than 10kWh/kg H2, as 70% of the process electricity need can be recycled internally from the waste itself
  • The solution can treat any type of waste, including auto-shredder-residue, contaminated plastics, industrial waste, medical waste, hazardous waste and wind turbine blades
  • Minimum of 85% reduction of CO2 emissions (in Switzerland) when compared to mainstream alternative waste disposal via public incineration and plans to have negative emissions in the future
  • Hydrogen/Waste yield of up to 20% at an energy consumption of less than 10 kWh/kg H2
  • Sustainable solution to landfilling and incineration from communities, providing hydrogen and district-heating
04.

The Financial benefits

  • Less than 6 year payback time for and 20-25% Project IRR depending on waste type, for a 15-year project
  • Solution all-in production cost below EUR 3.0/kg H2, as 70% of the process energy requirement is recycled internally and high gate fee from non-recyclable waste
  • Gate Fee income from treating non-recyclable waste, income from selling hydrogen and liquid carbon dioxide. Any produced residue products from gasification are sold, including precious metals
