Access to modern energy involves implementing sustainable, affordable, and reliable solutions that meet the needs of communities. To this end, TotalEnergies has launched the Sunshine solar lamps range. To light up the whole house, different solar home systems are available in cash or as pay-as-you-go to offer funding solutions according to the resources of the customer. They improve the living standards and quality of life of households: by giving the possibility to work after sunset, by providing lighting for home study, by facilitating the access to information and communication (radio, TV, mobile phone charging). With affordable prices, this range represents an alternative to traditional unreliable and polluting sources of energy (kerosene lamps, candle…) in terms of safety, CO2 emissions and more revenues for the small entrepreneurs. Customers can rely on our existing worldwide distribution network of more than 15,000 service stations, to buy our solar lamps.

The Environmental Benefits

  • Autonomy from 8 to 18 hours of lighting per day (on normal mode and depending the lamp’s range) and enable phone charging.
  • 2-year warranty
  • 96% of reduction on human health impact in comparison with kerosene lamps.
  • Reduction of 90% of greenhouse emissions regarding kerosene lamps.
  • Reduction of 98% of damages to the ecosystems regarding kerosene lamps.
  • Reduction of 98% on resource depletion regarding kerosene lamps.

The Financial Benefits

  • Breakeven after only 3 months
  • 210$ economies for a household over 2 years on top of the cost of the kerosene lamp itself and the transport to shops.
  • On average a household in sub-Saharan Africa spends 0,30$ per day to buy kerosene, batteries or candles and to charge phones. Source: Gogla, The True Cost of Kerosene in Rural Africa. Apr 15, 2012
