A dry exhaust gas treatment process to remove SOx and particles from exhaust gases of ships diesel engines
The dry SOLVAir Marine exhaust gas treatment system based on the injection of sodium-based sorbents provides an efficient, sustainable and profitable solution to comply with existing IMO 2020 sulfur regulations. The acid neutralization reaction with the SOx begins as soon as the sodium-based solution is in contact with the exhaust gases after the injection. As a side benefit the system removes more than 99 % of particles and consequently anticipates expected regulations on particle emissions reduction and can thus be considered as a future-proof solution. The sorbents used (also well-known as "baking powder") are environmentally friendly, neither toxic nor irritant or harmful to the environment and human health. They can be easily handled onboard without any risk for the crew or passengers. The resulting reaction products are considered as non-hazardous waste and different options for the treatment on land are available.
