In 2020 alone, about 1.56 billion face masks are estimated to have entered our oceans. The most effective way to prevent plastic waste such as Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and other commingled used plastics from polluting our ecosystems is reclaim waste at its origin by sterilizing and compacting the waste into a chip. SAFEReCYCLER is a compact reclamation platform compressed into a single piece of equipment the size of a refrigerator to prevent waste from escaping into unexpected places in our ecosystem. It is simple to install that is fully automatic with minimal resource requirements. The entire reclamation process requires minimal human intervention, is energy efficient and is self-contained with an extremely low risk of exposure to any pathogens during operation. The output material, which is certified pathogen-free, has a wide range of applications in housing and construction such as furniture sections, floor tiles, wall cladding and roof panels.
The Environmental Benefits
- •A single unit can recycle 36 Tons of used plastics contaminated with pathogens and commingled with other materials at the place of waste generation
- •One unit of electrical energy (1 kWh) can produce 3 to 6 kg of densified and pathogen free plastic chips in a highly self-contained and efficient manner
- •Prevention of contamination by pathogen ridden waste in water or land, prevention of plastics in landfills and of greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants from the combustion of such plastics
