Shoes are complex products, with soles accounting for an average of 40% of the total. When they reach the end of their life or are pre-consumer waste, the best recycling potential is achieved through dismantling. Re_SHOES is an automated shoe dismantling demonstrator for post and pre-consumers shoes. It separates soles from upper parts and sorts them by composition to recycle shoe materials. This is achieved thanks to 4 cells: a tear-off cell for separating glued assemblies, a cutting cell for separating any type of assembly, and a detection cell combined to a sorting cell for sorting soles by composition. Robotics, automation and artificial intelligence are at the heart of these cells, enabling the process to be adapted to the different specificities of shoes. With this solutions, our clients aim to close the footwear recycling loop by reusing recycled materials in their products, thereby reducing the carbon impact of the entire footwear life cycle.
