Popularized before the 1980s and then overshadowed by the massive use of single-use and disposable plastic, the deposit system, brought up to date by the Loop project, created a disruption in modern consumption patterns. In addition to protecting the environment by reducing plastic waste, the deposit system offers innovative, high-quality and sustainable packaging. With a Zero Waste as a Service solution, Petrel is integrating Loop project within Carrefour. Petrel's mission is to supervise the reverse logistic of packagings, manage the customer refund and provide customer support. Furthermore, Petrel also supports a mission of social inclusion. It developed and managed returnable bags that are checked, cleaned, folded and counted by inmates in prison as part of a reintegration program. These bags are then returned into Carrefour warehouses in order to be reused. These circular processes are able to be applied within many BtoB / BtoC manufacturers and retailers.

The Environmental Benefits

  • Allows to save up to 7 tons of CO2 per year
  • A CO2 emissions reduction of 40% compared to bags used only once
  • 88% of delivery bags collected can be reused instead of directly recycled

The Financial Benefits

  • The Zero waste as a Service solution has a 2 years 1/2 payback time
  • Allows to save expenditure by 5% compared to ordering new bags
