The binder is price competitive price to cement when produced at scale. The building industry accounts for 38% of global CO2 emissions, with cement and concrete contributing 8%. In Switzerland, cement represents 5% of CO2 emissions. Additionally, 2.2 billion tons of construction waste are landfilled in western countries, including 45 million tons in Switzerland. Decarbonizing the construction industry and reducing primary material consumption are crucial to achieve the climate goals and Net Zero targets. An immediate solution is then needed.
