A low-cost water filter for providing clean and safe water without using electricity or any chemicals
With the Nanofilter® technology, it is now possible to modify the properties of nanomaterials that are used in Nanofilter® to trap and remove a wide range of “targeted” water contaminants which vary from one geographical area to another. Water pollutants vary geographically because of different human activities and geological formation of soil and rocks. To design a Nanofilter® for removal of contaminants, water is first tested in the laboratory in order to identify the contaminants contained therein. Thus, the properties of nanomaterials are changed according to the findings of the laboratory test. As required by WHO Standards, the Nanofilter® “selectively” removes 99.999% of contaminants from water, including bacteria, viruses, and chemical contaminants (of any category). One filter purifies 10 liters/hour, lasts five years, and has relatively lower operation cost (~GBP 1 per month) compared to other existing technologies of similar quality, making it affordable to a majority of Tanzanians, Kenyans and soon Zambians, who live in underserved areas.
