URBAN CANOPEE offers an innovative solution to fight the climate change effects in urban areas by deploying plant canopies over the city. With the impact of urban heat island phenomenon, cities are particularly vulnerable to extreme weather events and will have to cope with a rise in temperature by the end of the century. Urban areas need to prepare for the major challenges of the 21st century such as climate change, air pollution, and rapid urbanization. To meet this challenge, URBAN CANOPEE provides self-supporting structures, covered with vegetation and equipped with an autonomous and connected irrigation system. Designed to be easily moved, the base of the structure is only 1m² but allows vegetation to spread out up to 50 m². By deploying its oasis of coolness, this solution aims to compensate for heat islands, reduce air pollution and restore urban biodiversity while improving the quality of life of city dwellers.

The Environmental Benefits

  • 1 structure is equivalent to 2 trees in terms of CO2 sequestration
  • 100% solar-powered smart irrigation system

The Financial Benefits

  • Helps to reduce temperature rise resulting in savings of 1.2% in cooling energy per 0.6°
