Our Mission: Reducing the environmental footprint and manufacturing cost of plastic packaging by changing the performance of the material in the injection process. What we do: • KP offers an upstream solution to the sustainability challenges of polymer-based packaging by changing the performance of the polymer during the injection process. It allows to use less virgin material and a better uptake of recycled material when manufacturing PET bottles. • This is achieved through a technology retrofitted in existing injection machinery, hence low cost and scalability as there is no need to develop a new industrial footprint.
A systemic approach to address environmental footprint and recyclability trade-offs in plastics
The Keiryo PET solution is a manufacturing process that reduces the environmental footprint and manufacturing cost of plastic (PET) bottles. The Keiryo PET solution modifies the performance of the material during the injection process. This allows to produce PET containers using less virgin material and/or increase the uptake of recycled feedstock. Enhanced performance has been measured (up to 15% barrier improvement for carbonated soft drink containers). This result is achieved by integrating a patented 3D printed metal insert into existing industrial production assets. 3D printing enables low-cost manufacturing and global scalability. The KP technology generates a significant environmental impact that scales with its adoption and flows from the reduced use of materials. It will accelerate the transition to a Circular Economy as it reduces the amount of virgin plastic produced and increases the reusability of plastic waste. The technology is also applicable to bio-based feedstock.
