Interactive Climate workshops take a comprehensive approach, allowing different stakeholders to come together and discuss the current challenges our environment is facing linked to human activity. As mentioned by the WHO, increasing awareness and understanding of climate change's impact on our lives will encourage both behaviour change and community support for actions necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (2). Workshops encourage active engagement by involving participants in hands-on activities, helping them retain knowledge more effectively. A blend of theoretical instruction with practical exercises enables participants to apply their learning, strengthening their grasp of the subject (3).
“For decades, we've been encouraging people to ‘go green’ or ‘fly less’ without explicitly saying, ‘Change your behaviour.’ All the while, the forces that shape behaviour have been pushing in the opposite direction, making change feel nearly impossible.”- Joseph Merz (4) Today’s approach to the climate crisis tends to fall into two extremes: on one side, there’s blame, guilt, and judgment around unsustainable behaviours; on the other, there’s the belief that technological fixes alone can allow society to continue on a path of endless material growth without requiring behaviour change. Meanwhile, roughly 40% of people globally remain unaware of climate change altogether (5). Workshops provide a collaborative space for diverse stakeholders to build awareness of the challenges we face and explore solutions together. They foster open discussion, allowing participants to hear each other out, reflect on unsustainable behaviours, and leave feeling hopeful and empowered to make real changes.
