Caisse de pension de l'État de Vaud
Lausanne
The spiral-shaped residential building, located in the heart of the University of Lausanne and ETH Lausanne campus, provides housing for around 1,000 students with its 712 apartments. The concrete spiral, with a diameter of 137 meters, rises at a steady incline of one percent. Each full turn of the spiral corresponds to one floor. This nine-story cylinder reaches a height of 27 meters. The project, in operation since 2019, is managed by the Caisse de pensions de l’État de Vaud, which oversees its operation and energy utilization.
On the roof, 1,200 solar panels are installed with an east-west orientation, covering an area of 2,000 m². These panels supply much of the building's energy with solar power, generating an annual yield of 360,000 kWh.
The Swiss solar manufacturer Megasol has been producing solar roof tiles for over solar roof tiles for over 10 years. In this way, the Swiss manufacturer achieves that "Match" is compatible with a very broad range of roof tiles. The solar roof tile from Megasol can be completely freely designed for sophisticated architecture. Megasol offers a wide range of colors and even the possibility to create individual colors. Megasol makes it possible to give the "Match" solar panels an individual look and even a unique feel by means of glass structures.
