Description

Between 2016 and 2020, Investment Capital Corp of the Philippines implemented the sunE cleantech solution to pioneer a shuttle service in Santo Tomas, Batangas. The service, operating 16-18 hours daily with >99.99% uptime, addressed the new community's transportation needs while promoting sustainability. The sunE "starter kit," including electric tricycles, solar panels, charging equipment, and swappable batteries, facilitated continuous operations and achieved a 30% return on investment at ₱10 per passenger.

Impact & Result

The primary benefits purported by sunE include a more robust battery supply chain and ability to scale towards a franchise business model. Over the course of the entire operating period, spanning from July 2016 to February 2020, a significant total of 12 tons of CO2 emissions were successfully avoided.

Solution Spotlight

The shuttle service employs 3 and 4-wheel low speed electric vehicles (LSEVs), that replace the polluting internal combustion engine (ICE) tricycles and public utility vehicles (PUV) and jeepneys that presently dominate the streets. The solution is built around a complete transportation and energy management system, that includes self-generated energy to drive the LSEVs, and a business system delivered through a proprietary cloud-based management system. sunE's system is an integrated business unit that generates its own power from solar panels, and turns the sun’s energy into cash in 24 hours. Its cloud-based digital payment technology is a key feature of this system, and it helps to address some of the financing challenges associated with any type of vehicle.
