PepsiCo
Minas Gerais
US beverage and food giant PepsiCo has taken a significant step toward sustainable manufacturing by installing a solar thermal plant at its Sete Lagoas snacks factory, located in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. This innovative installation is designed to heat process water, contributing to the company’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and embrace renewable energy solutions. The system features advanced high-vacuum solar thermal flat panels, which were supplied by the Swiss company TVP Solar, known for its cutting-edge technology in solar energy applications.
Reduce natural gas usage in the unit by 140,000 cubic meters annually, significantly cutting down on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by almost 280 tonnes. This reduction is equivalent to the environmental impact of planting nearly 18,000 trees, making a substantial contribution to sustainability and climate change mitigation efforts.
There is a growing demand for renewable sources of energy to replace fossil fuels for industrial processes. TVP's innovative solar thermal panel integrate patented high-vacuum technology to produce the levels of heat required for industrial processes or district heating at the same cost as natural gas and at a lower cost than liquid fossil fuels. The high-vacuum technology allows TVP's flat panels to exhibit minimal thermal losses and no degradation over time, delivering exceptional efficiency. Without the need for cleaning and only minimal maintenance, TVP’s 100% recyclable solar collectors can operate for 25 years to deliver emission free thermal energy.
