Description

PepsiCo has advanced its sustainability efforts by implementing the Solar Thermal Decarbonization solution at its snacks factory in Sete Lagoas, Brazil, using solar thermal plants with high-vacuum panels from Swiss firm TVP Solar. This system heats process water, significantly reducing natural gas consumption by 140,000 cubic meters and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative demonstrates PepsiCo's commitment to environmental stewardship and aligns with its corporate sustainability goals. The Sete Lagoas project showcases a scalable model for renewable energy in the industrial sector, highlighting the effectiveness of innovative clean technology solutions in tackling energy challenges and promoting global sustainability.

Impact & Result

PepsiCo's solar thermal system reduced natural gas usage by 140,000 cubic meters, resulting in a significant decrease of 280 tonnes in greenhouse gas emissions, further strengthening the company’s commitment to sustainability.

Solution Spotlight

TVP's pioneering solar technology drives a high-end product that generates hot water/ steam at 80C - 180C temperatures to power industrial processes and district heating networks. The super-performing flat collectors, integrate patented high-vacuum technology to produce heat throughout the year in most climatic conditions and geographies at the same cost as natural gas and cheaper than liquid fossil fuels. Thanks to this high-vacuum technology TVP's flat panels exhibit minimal thermal losses, no degradation over time, and thus exceptional efficiency. Without the need for cleaning and only minimal maintenance TVP's 100% recyclable solar collectors can operate for 25 years to deliver emission-free thermal energy. Existing clients include: Masdar (UAE), Saudi Aramco (KSA), Sulaibiya (Kuwait), Ras Al Khaimah (UAE), Hefei (China), Boekel (NL), Martin & Rossi (Italy), Larnaudie (France), SIG/ Le Lignon (CH).
