Operator ICT, a municipal enterprise dedicated to Smart City Projects in Prague, wanted to optimize waste collection of the 420 new underground bins installed across 10 city districts.The goal of the operation was to prevent unnecessary routing, fuel consumptions and emissions caused by collection of half-empty bins while ensuring that there are no overflowing bins. Over a year, all the bins were fitted with the sensors. The data collected is now used for predictive models on waste collection frequencies.
The project was a success and has been extended to cover all underground bins in the city, encompassing approximately 6,000 bins. This expansion demonstrates the project's effectiveness and commitment to improving waste management on a larger scale.
