Greisch
Liège
The engineering and architectural firm Greisch addressed heat and glare issues in its renovated Liège buildings by implementing SageGlass, an electrochromic glazing technology. The 236 m² atrium posed challenges due to heat and glare that the existing systems couldn't handle, causing discomfort. SageGlass adjusts tint based on the sun's position, enhancing comfort by neutralizing temperature disparities and reducing glare. It also leads to significant energy savings and reduced air conditioning costs, while eliminating maintenance for shading devices. This move highlights Greisch's commitment to sustainability and advanced building solutions, showcasing significant benefits in modern building management.
The 140 glass sections are managed by a smart control system that’s programmed by SageGlass, and follow different usage scenarios designed to meet the client’s specific needs. These scenarios can be reprogrammed as necessary. The glazing is controlled manually using the wall-mounted touch screen or via a tablet directly linked to the Building Management System (BMS).
SageGlass aims at providing an elegant and sustainable alternative to conventional buildings' facade solutions for architects and builders looking at solving solar control challenges without sacrificing aesthetics, energy-efficiency or comfort. SageGlass dynamically adapts its tint in response to the weather conditions and the building's needs, to manage the daylight and heat in a smart way. Spaces always benefit from daylight and a free access to views to outdoors, without suffering from glare nor overheating. This thus results in reducing the building's energy use and improving the occupants' comfort and well-being.
