Intercontinental Hotel Group: IHG Voco™

The IHG Voco™ Brussels City North Hotel (opened 2023) integrates Hydraloop’s decentralised greywater recycling system as part of its circular water strategy. Shower and bath water from 58 rooms is collected, treated, and reused onsite for toilet flushing and garden irrigation. The installation - a Cascade of 5 Hydraloop H600 units with a Polisher- saves over 1.2 million litres of potable water annually and reduces wastewater discharge by up to 40%. “We hope to become an example for the hospitality industry.” — Philip Meyfroot, Living Tomorrow Financing & Enablers. Financed by the hotel developer with support from Brussels-Capital Region incentives, enabled by strong water-reuse policies, IHG’s sustainability leadership, and Hydraloop’s certified compact design, delivered through effective collaboration among project partners.
The system saves 1,212,000 litres of potable water annually, reducing consumption by 35–40% and cutting wastewater discharge by 30–40%. Lower demand for municipal water also reduces related energy use. Economically, the hotel saves €6,335 per year on water costs. The compact 14.4 m² installation supports IHG’s “Journey to Tomorrow” targets and strengthens the hotel’s sustainability profile and green certification potential.
Hydraloop offers a full product range of stand-alone and concealed water recycling devices for residential and commercial real estate. Hydraloop purifies the water from showers, baths, and washing machines as well as condensation water from tumble dryers, heat pumps and air conditioning units. Hydraloop water can be re-used for toilet flushing, washing machines, garden irrigation, and topping up swimming pools. Hydraloop's patented technology is consumer friendly, carefree, and sustainable. Our treatment process removes dirt, soap, and other pollution from greywater without the use of filters, membranes, or chemicals. Hydraloop combines six different technologies: sedimentation, floatation, dissolved air floatation, foam fractionation, an aerobic bioreactor, and disinfection of the treated water with powerful UV light.
