Description

The Gironde county council and Gironde social landlord, adopted Qarnot QH-1 in October 2018 after Qarnot technologies had been recognized by the French Law as Renewable Energy. 346 space heaters have been installed in Bordeaux to heat two levels of public offices, and four levels of social housing (49 apartments). 6,000 m2 are fully heated by Qarnot’s QH-1, providing renewable and free heat to the users. The building, called “Florestine” was the first in the world entirely heated by computers.

Impact & Result

- Reused 2,500 MWh of energy, resulting in a 600-ton annual reduction in CO2 emissions.
- Achieved a 20% decrease in overall energy consumption, leading to significant cost savings.
- Enhanced operational efficiency by 15%, contributing to streamlined processes and reduced waste.

Solution Spotlight

Given that data entres consume 3% of the world's electricity, QH-1 takes advantage of this lost heat and uses it as a heat source to warm rooms. Through a disruptive and distributed infrastructure, it provides cloud computing where computing power is no longer deployed in concentrated data centers, but split throughout the city. Buildings become "smart" because of QH-1. It offers free heating, Wi-Fi, an auto-scheduled heating mode, remote control, voice command, air quality monitoring, fire alarm detection, presence and intrusion detection. QH-1 heats social housing units and building offices for free while computing remotely for major banks, 3D animation studios and research labs.
