City of Edmonton
Edmonton
In mid-2019, the City of Edmonton adopted the MyHEAT Solar Platform as part of its "Change Homes for Climate Solar Program," aiming to educate homeowners on the solar potential of their residences. The MyHEAT SOLAR Map provided detailed, user-friendly information on each home’s capacity for solar energy, addressing a lack of awareness about solar benefits and feasibility. This tool directed users towards local rebates and installers, simplifying the transition to solar energy. The initiative empowered residents, supported environmental goals, and showcased how technology can drive environmental progress and adoption of clean energy at a municipal level.
Engaged over 10,300 unique visitors to the dedicated solar map site since July 2019, enhancing community awareness and support for renewable energy initiatives. The detailed, user-friendly information on each home’s capacity for solar energy provided by MyHEAT SOLAR Map simplifies the acceleration of Solar Energy adoption in the region.
MyHEAT Solar is a web-based tool designed to deliver quick and accurate solar potential data for individual buildings. The base solar potential data is provided by Google’s Project Sunroof through a web-based API. The Google service is highly scalable and is designed for worldwide consumption. The technology uses a byproduct of Google 3D mapping, combined with solar potential data, and local values to provide a personal savings indicator. Residents can find their home or building on a map, visualize the solar potential, and customize a potential solar install based on their electricity consumption. Once a user views their rooftop solar potential, the platform provides the "Easy Button" for residents to participate in any solar programs available locally.
