The City of Niteroi wanted to fight traffic congestion in a context of high discrepancy of traffic congestion levels at different moments of the day such as empty traffic infrastructures when the national football team was playing but extremely stressed and saturated right after the final whistle. They implemented security cameras and traffic lights controllers in Rio de Janeiro and Niterói, two cities connected by a bridge across the Rio Bay to smooth the car flow in real time.
This resulted in a remarkable 30% reduction in the amount of time spent stuck in traffic jams, significantly improving overall efficiency and freeing up valuable hours for more productive or enjoyable activities.
Leveraging a territory’s digital twin, SIRADEL's Livin' platform aggregates data from various sources, including traffic lights, traffic flow sensors, video cameras, parking meters, air quality sensors, and meteorological data. With advanced visualization and simulation capabilities, the Livin' platform empowers users to proactively anticipate and measure real-time impacts resulting from transformations or disruptions in traffic flow, such as roadworks or congestion. This proactive assessment provides data-driven insights to plan strategic interventions aimed at alleviating urban congestion. SIRADEL's Livin' platform is an invaluable decision-making tool to optimize the management of mobility infrastructures and services, all while minimizing costs. In doing so, it plays a pivotal role in addressing the pressing challenges faced by modern cities, such as reducing carbon emissions, mitigating nuisances like noise pollution, and enhancing both air quality and residents' quality of life.
