Solvay
Rosignano
Solvay, a leader in advanced materials and specialty chemicals in Rosignano, Italy, has adopted IPSIIS's cleantech solution for sustainable residue management. IPSIIS, based in Wallonia, Belgium, produces eco-friendly insulating mineral foams. Together, they address industrial challenges by transforming soda ash manufacturing residues into specialized construction materials. This reduces waste, promotes a circular economy, and provides sustainable building materials with high thermal performance. This collaboration highlights the potential of innovative industrial practices to enhance environmental and operational efficiency in the heavy industry sector.
Subject to additional testing, the new partnerships may expedite the reduction of limestone residues discharged into the sea, complementing the action plan Solvay revealed in September 2022 to invest in innovative technical solutions at the site.
This foam is a rigid, new material with insulation and fireproofing properties, that can be used in production and construction sector alike. Manufacturing plants are implemented locally and valorise natural or recycled minerals (that count for 90% of the end product) thanks to a safe, scalable, frugal process: Mineral raw materials (natural, recovered or recycled materials) are mixed to IPSIIS adjuvants (patented food grade additive, mineral binder) and aerated: the mineral foam is applied directly on site or moulded. A drying phase at room temperature yields rigid, protective mineral foam.
