story image

Description

In collaboration with Hartmann Edelstahlrohre GmbH, OHS has implemented an on‑site green hydrogen solution that delivers both environmental and economic benefits. A 30 kW electrolyzer, powered by the company’s own solar PV, produces green hydrogen for the annealing process. At the same time, waste heat from the furnace is captured and reused for heating, reducing CO₂ emissions and boosting efficiency. This approach eliminates dependence on external gas deliveries — and the delays that came with them — while providing stable pricing and enhanced energy security. The project allows Hartmann Edelstahlrohre to reliably meet EU RED II targets well ahead of schedule, making it a strong example of a sustainable, resilient future for the industry.

Impact & Result

Environmental Impact: CO₂ Savings: 9,765 kg CO₂e/year Economic Impact: Annual hydrogen costs are reduced by 25% compared to grey hydrogen delivered to site — and this doesn’t even account for the fact that delivered green hydrogen would be even more expensive!

Solution Spotlight

The H2-Battery is a comprehensive energy solution that enables complete energy independence all year round. It integrates hydrogen-based components, including modular electrolysis, a fuel cell, a compressor and a hydrogen storage system, to create a fully autonomous energy system. The-H2 Battery complements existing building energy supply components such as heat pumps and electric batteries with these hydrogen components and is ideal for property owners (private persons as well as SMEs or public institutions) with renewable energy sources that generate at least 1.6 times more energy than they consume.
