Société Coopérative d'Habitation Charmontey
Vevey
In 2018, the Société Coopérative d'Habitation Charmontey initiated a sustainability project at Rue de Midi 10-12 in Vevey, Switzerland, by installing rooftop solar panels and adopting the Climkit Community solution. This online platform and mobile app allow real-time monitoring of energy use, solar generation, and provide detailed billing information. The initiative has demystified energy data for residents, streamlined the billing process, and enhanced transparency. It has also fostered a collective responsibility for environmental stewardship, demonstrating a scalable model for other housing cooperatives worldwide.
Covering an impressive area of 114 m² and equipped with a total power capacity of 21 kWp, these advanced solar panels provide energy solutions for 28 apartments. With a self-consumption rate of 75%, the system allows residents to generate and use most of their own electricity, significantly reducing reliance on external sources. Additionally, the solar installation offers an autonomy rate of 31%, meaning it can support nearly a third of the apartments' energy needs independently, further enhancing sustainability and reducing energy costs for the community.
Climkit is a software that provides a reliable and cost-effective metering and invoicing service for solar communities. Thanks to their solution, real estate owners that have invested in a photovoltaic installation on the roof of an apartment or commercial building can sell the generated electricity to their tenants. For each consumer, they make a distinction between the solar and the grid electricity they have used, thus reducing their quarterly bill.
