BuntBrain Adopted by FACSA in Borriana, Spain for Advanced Leak Detection and Water Savings

Description

FACSA, the private water utility of the City of Borriana, implemented the solution in 2019. The network was originally divided into 12 District Metered Areas (DMA), ranging in size from 7 km to 66 km pipe length. If there was a leak in one of the DMAs, the utility had no alternative but to search within an area corresponding to the entire DMA where the leak was reported. As part of the implementation, valves were opened to create the new large DMA (HvDMA) and a dynamic calibration of the hydraulic model at HvDMA was performed to help identify errors such as missing pipes, closed valves, etc.

Impact & Result

  • Reduced water losses by 30%, conserving water and minimizing waste.
  • Detected and repaired 74 leaks, preventing further water wastage and promoting efficient resource use.
  • The reduction in water losses and night flow (by 20%) leads to lower operational costs and improved water distribution efficiency.
