LBSP developed 600 student homes, all equipped with a Counter Flow WWHR device. Hot water is generated by an instantaneous water heater, which is fed by pre-heated water from the WWHR device. This way, less than 9kW electrical power is needed to provide an 18kW shower performance. This provides a huge energy saving of course, but more important: it requires a 40% lower power supply connection to the grid! So both resident(student) AND landlord(LBSP student homes) enjoy the benefits of using WWHR: -Resident: less energy costs for hot water -Landlord: lower electricity connection tariff
Saved energy p/year: 265 MWh (electricity) This equals approx 56t CO2 emissions each year. Calculated payback time: - for residents: 0 year (no extra fee charged for WWHR) - for landlord: 6 years (through savings on grid connection tariff)
By recovering the heat from waste water, one can easily re-use 40 to 70% of the heat that otherwise would have gone lost down the drain. Taking into account some losses in the shower cabin and piping system, a realistic saving of 35 to 60% on your energy bill (for domestic hot water) can be achieved!
