Description

The 3-million inhabitants Urban Community of Yaoundé decided to set up tools to fight against air pollution after alarming air quality evaluation results. They installed 40 AtmoTrack microsensors to trace pollution and fine particles in real time. It confirmed alarming daily concentrations of fine particles and highlighted the impact of different seasons on air quality and triggered actions: pedestrianization, 400 free consultations with specialized health personnel, and a mobile app awareness campaign.

Impact & Result

  • The installation of 40 AtmoTrack microsensors allowed for continuous tracking of pollution and fine particles (PM 2.5) in real time, helping to identify areas with poor air quality.
  • Following the pedestrianization measures, PM 2.5 concentrations decreased by an average of 5 µg/m³, improving air quality and reducing harmful pollutants in the city.
  • The initiative led to the provision of 400 free consultations with specialized health personnel, helping residents address the health impacts of air pollution.

Solution Spotlight

AtmoTrack is the first environmental life quality monitoring network, street by street in real time. The innovators' mission is to democratize the means of understanding air quality, while contributing to the reduction of human impact on our environment. Based on a large network of embedded sensors on professional fleets, street furniture or buildings, the platform provides access to actionable and precise information on environment quality. All these data are then combined with the client's business data, before being redistributed on Almotrack's dashboards. The innovators' decision support system can then be used by active companies and communities to better understand the impact of local air quality on their activities.
