Identification

With almost 15 billion single-use packaging sent in the world in 2018 and 10% annual growth, e-commerce shipments are generating 4 million tonnes of waste per year. And after Asia closed its doors to the waste from Europe, including cardboard, European recycling centers are saturated. Paper mills factories are now prioritising corporate waste, which is less mixed and less contaminated with other waste than household waste. Other types of cardboard waste are often incinerated or buried. Hipli is acting to minimize the environmental impact of the e-commerce packaging by helping brands to offer a great customer experience without generating waste while reducing significantly the environmental footprint of e-commerce shipments. A packaging as a service for e-commerce: mailers that can be reused 100 times and a logistics to ensure that they are really returned and reused.

Implemented by Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie des Landes in Mont-de-Marsan (France) in 2022

The Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie (CCI) des Landes used the Solution packaging to send a parcel containing their annual activity report to their partners, employees and other public entities. They sent 650 Hipli in early January 2022 to recipients located in France. Once recipients received the parcel, they sent it back to Hipli so that it could be recirculated to other brands and consumers. The cost of the solution was equivalent to the single-use alternative.

The Labeled Solution Hipli is a parcel designed to be reused 100 times. Hipli reusable packages are offered as an option on Balzac Paris’ site to leave the choice to their customers. Upon receipt, the clients discover their purchases and fold the package following the instructions on the back, they then mail for free the Hipli enveloppe. Hipli parcels are light and fold into a mail format to limit the environmental impact of the postal return: a postal journey between Tours and Le Havre emits 20g of CO2, which is the average impact of sending an e-mail. HIPLI parcels have a lower environmental impact than cardboard parcels, even with a 100% recycled content: -83% of the carbon footprint for the large format for example.
