Identification

The solution aims at providing a way to reduce both CO2 and non-CO2 effects of flights to aircraft operators. This solution relies on the capability to forecast on a daily basis so-called climate-sensitive areas on a daily basis, in which non-CO2 effects (NOx, persistent contrails) are emphasized, and provide recommendations to aircraft operators such that they can avoid these areas.

The environmental benefits

  • Avoiding 100 km in persistent contrails conditions can save up to 1100 kgCO2eq, which is the equivalent of 348 kg of fuel savings
  • Using mainstream fuel efficiency solutions would require 4 to 5 flights to reach the same CO2eq reduction
  • Non-CO2 effects (NOx, Contrails, water vapour) contribute to 40 to 60% of aircraft operators' climate footprint
  • By avoiding climate sensitive areas, the climate impact of a flight can be immediately reduced by up to 40%
  • Acting on less than 10% of the flights operated by an aircraft operator can imply up to a 25% reduction of the total climate impact of this operator
03.

The Financial benefits

  • In the frame of a CO2eq offsetting, reducing the climate footprint of an aircraft operators' regional route would lead to 100k€ savings per year.
  • Makes nonCO2 effects reduction achievable with a solution tens of times cheaper than the cost of SAF required to reach the same CO2eq target
