CYCOM is Solvays product branding for its aerospace composite materials. By achieving a balance of performance, cost and lightweighting these products offer advantages over metallic solutions and non-CYCOM composite products. In turn, this balance facilitates greater use of composite materials across the aerospace sector, and consequently a lower fuel burn per aircraft and the reaping of environmental benefits as a result.

The Environmental Benefits

  • CYCOM materials enable annual savings of up to 4kT of kerosene per aircraft - potentially 600kT savings per year for a typical widebody aircraft
  • CYCOM materials enable annual potential savings of 12.6 kT CO2eq/yr of emissions per typical widebody aircraft - which totals 60 MT CO2eq/yr for the global widebody fleet in 2022

The Financial Benefits

  • CYCOM materials can lead to direct savings in fuel consumption as well as enabling aircraft operators to carry increased payloads driving higher and cargo flexibility
  • Composite materials, such as our CYCOM portfolio can offer longer lifespans than components made from metals, reducing the need for maintenance and replacement (e.g., 30% lower airframe maintenance)
